Q. I get an error "Unable to open communications port".
A. If you are using the "Infrared Port" you must disable the Pocket PC's use of that port. Go to
Start->Settings->Connections->Beam and disable "Receive all incoming beams..."
If you are using COM1:
You should disable ActiveSync via Start->ActiveSync->Tools->Options->PC and
uncheck "Enable Synchronization when cradled..."
If you are using an external keyboard, disable it.
Also make sure you do not have multiple sessions of vxHpc running using the same port.
Q. I get an error "Disconnected: Unknown reason".
A.
1. In the "Async. Comm." tab hit "Configure...".
2. Select "Call Options".
3. Change "Cancel call if not connected within" to 120 seconds (or higher) or disable
this feature.
Q. I get an error "Disconnected: Unreachable" when using Cellular Line on my Pocket PC Phone.
A. Depending on the service you may need the "Circuit Switch Data (CSD)" feature. If you are using AT&T/Cingular see
TT-SX66.doc.
Q. How do I connect to a non-telnet port ?
A. To connect to a non-telnet port place a colon and the port number after
the host address in the Telnet tab, i.e. microsoft.com:8080
Q. I'm telneting into a host and the screen doesn't look correct.
A. Your host may not understand the industry standard Terminal ID that vxHpc is sending.
Change the 'Terminal ID" in the Telnet tab to vt100
Q. I get an error "Cannot find vxHpc.exe or one of its components" or "vxHpc is not a valid Windows CE
application" when attempting to run vxHpc.
A. It appears the incorrect version of vxHpc was installed on your HPC (most likely the Pocket PC version)
Do the following:
1. Remove vxHpc (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Remove Programs)
2. Copy the file vxHpc.hpcPro_arm.CAB (Assuming the HPC is using the ARM processor) from the desktop
to the HPC
3. Double tap the file copied in #2 above on the HPC
4. It will install
If your device does like the CAB file try the manual install at
vxHpc or
vxHpcPlus and look at the
readme.txt file for install instructions.
Q. The comm port I want to use is not listed in "Select a Port" i.e. Bluetooth COM8: or
COM7: or COM6:
A. You can physically key in the comm port name in the "Select a Port" area i.e. COM8: (remember the
colon)
Q. On my Pocket PC when I re-launch vxHpc I can't get connected.
A. You probably didn't close your previous session. Hitting the 'X" in the top-right-hand corner does
not close the program, but rather minimizes it. You must go to File -> Close to quit vxHpc. If you are using
Windows Mobile 6.0 you can enable the "X" button to end running programs.
Q. I can't create a "Desktop Shortcut".
A.
Make sure the session name does NOT contain a slash (/) or back-slash (\).
Q. Is there manual on scripting and hot keys ?
A. See the "Help Files" question above under "General".
Q. I get an error "cannot load driver" when attempting to run vxSniffer on a Pocket PC 2003 (Windows Mobile 2003) or
Windows Mobile 5.0 / 6 device.
A. It appears the incorrect version of vxSniffer was installed on your HPC (most likely the Pocket PC 3.0
version)
Do the following:
1. Remove vxSniffer (Start -> Settings -> System -> Remove Programs)
2. Copy the file vxSniffer.ppc42_arm.CAB from the desktop to the HPC
3. Double tap the file copied in #2 above on the HPC
4. It will install
5. If the unit has Bluetooth turn it OFF
6. Soft reset the HPC
7. Turn the HPC OFF then ON
8. Start vxSniffer
Q. The device 'locks up' when running vxSniffer on a Pocket PC.
A. Some Pocket PCs use the same chip for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth which causes a conflict
Do the following:
1. Turn Bluetooth OFF
2. Soft reset the HPC
3. Turn the HPC OFF then ON
4. Start vxSniffer
